The Pink Beach
This is the first in a group of stories by Naomi Chadwick, which were adapted from a 1950s New Zealand School Journal, a serial following a family's summer holiday activites. It is fascinating for its depiction of an earlier pace of life but there is plenty for today's children to identify with. My students who have read these stories have really loved them! The School Journal started in the early 20th century and has been the most wonderful educational resource for generations of children. During these earlier decades the journals were given monthly to each child to keep. They were stored in a cardboard folder filed with string. Many of our finest writers contributed their narratives, articles, plays and poetry, accompanied by beautiful illustrations by our finest artists. They are an absolute treasure.
