Kao and the Golden Fish - The Korean Cinderella

kaoIn ThailandThailand there was a girl called Kao. Sadly, her mother died. Then her father remarried a new wife who already had a daughter.


Unfortunately her dad died. Now Kao was left all alone with her mean stepmother and stepsister who made her do all the jobs.


Kao had a special golden fish that lived in a pool nearby her house. She spent lots of time with the golden fish. She felt really happy because it felt like it was her dead mother's spiritspirit come to watch over her.


The stepsister spyspied on Kao, and the mean stepsister saw the golden fish. She tricked and captured it as fast as she could. Then the stepmother and the stepsister cooked it and ate it all up. Kao didn't even eat a teeny tiny bite of her friend, the golden fish.


She felt really upset about the golden fish being caught and eaten by her stepmother and stepsister. Then she buried the golden fish bones. After a few days they grew into a beautiful eggplant.eggplant. Every day she went outside to talk to the plant and she felt happy again.


But the stepsister saw Kao being happy when she was spying on her. Then she told her mother about this. They dug up the plant so Kao would be sad. But Kao collected some more seeds from the eggplant and planted them and watered them. A while later two beautiful trees grew where the seeds had been planted.


She heard her mother talking to her because the wind blowing through the trees was making a lovely song. A prince stopped by to have a rest. He saw the two beautiful trees. He wanted to take them back to his palace but they wouldn't get out, even if you cut them. The he found Kao, the owner, and they fell in love with each other. They got married and moved the two beautiful trees to the palace. Then they lived happily ever after.
