Chinye - the Kenyan Cinderella

ChinyeOnyefulu.colorOnce upon a time in KenyaKenya there live a little girl called Chinye (Cheenyar). Her mother died. But sadly, Chinye's father re*marryremarried, and her stepmother had a super mean daughter. So the stepmother and daughter commandedcommanded Chinye to do all the chores.  

The bad stepmother sent poor Chinye to the lake with a gourd (gord) and said, "Do not come back with an empty gourd." So Chinye went to the lake. It was very dark there and she could hear some scary wild animals.

Chine got scared when she saw the lions by the river drinking water. This meant Chinye couldn't get water but she couldn't go back because of what her stepmother had said. A flamingoflamingo helped her get some water by showing her signs to give her some chance of running away.

She got led to an old lady's house and saw gourds on the floor and there were big and small ones. The old lady told her to sweep the floor so Chinye did as she was told, but all the gourds got in the way.So Chinye said that she was having trouble sweeping the floor. "Pick up was many small gourds as you can carry back in your apron,"apron," said the old lady.

After she went and got water she bought back the gourds but the stepmother said, "You went out too long!" After that they opened the gourds and found a lot of sparkling and shiny jewels - rubyrubies, diamonds,diamonds, emeraldsemeralds and sapphires. They felt amazed and excited.

Then the sister went to the old lady's house and chose the biggest gourds. When she got home her mother opened them. Out came some insects and tried to bit them. They got scared from the insects so they ran away and never came back. Chinye shared the jewels with the old lady and the people in her village.
