Tom sat starestaring at the dull grey metalmetal door of the cubiclecubicle in the boys' toilets, tryingtrying not to cry. He did notdidn't    know what to do, didn't know who to tell. No one could see it underunder his hair, only the otherother boys in John'sJohn's gang had seen him come up behindbehind him and punch him as hard as he could.

kablam Thug"If you tell anyone,anyone, you willyou'll     get a real hidehiding after school!" John whisperedwhispered in his ear meanly.

Tom didn't say anything.anything. He just walkedwalked quicklyquickly to the toilet to get awayaway so that they would not laugh at him for beingbeing upset.upset.

He waited there untiluntil he heard the bell go and then he walked slowlyslowly back to class and sat on the mat, keeping well awayaway from the other boys. The teacher lookedlooked closelyclosely at him and raised her eyebrowseyebrows as though she was askingasking him a question,question, but he shook his head.
