One day, WolverineWolverine visitedvisited his old friend, Bear. He was very glad to see him and,Wolverin beingbeing a good host, at once put the pot on the fire to cook him somethingsomething to eat. After the food was cookedcooked and they had eateneaten it, Bear said to his young friend, "Wolverine, how would you make a fire if you did notdidn't    have any flint and steel?" Wolverine agreedagreed that he would be helplesshelpless withoutwithout flint and steel.

HaveHaving said this, Bear went out and got some bark from a maplemaple tree. He put it in a little pile, and then jumpedjumped over it. As soon as he jumped over it, it burst intointo a flame. Then he said to Wolverine, "Now I give you the power to make a fire."

Wolverine was very happy and was in a hurryhurry to get awayaway and try out his new power. As soon as he got out of Bear'sBear's house, he startedstarted to run. He continuedcontinued runningrunning until he got to a place where he could no longerlonger see Bear. Then he collectedcollected some maple bark for himselfhimself and made a little pile of it, then jumped over it. When it broke into a blaze, he was very pleasedpleased with himself. He took out his flint and steel and threw them away,away, thinkingthinking that they were no longer of any use to him.
