Which Way Does the Wind Blow? Chapter 2
Soon he met the fox and the fox saw at once that the old bear was showinging off. "I amI'm not goinggoing to tell him how cleverclever he is," said the fox to himself,himself, and so he pretendedpretended not to notice the grouse at all. InsteadInstead he pointeded his nose up in the air and sniffedsniffed loudlyly with a curiouscurious look on his face.
"Umph!Umph! Umph!" gruntedgrunted the bear, tryingtrying to make the fox look at him.
"Ah," said the fox, "is that you, Old Bear? I was just wonderingwondering which way the wind is blowinging today.today. Can you tell me?"
Of course the bear could notcouldn't answer withoutwithout openingopening his mouth to speak, and so he gruntedgrunted again, hopehoping that the fox would see why he could not give him a properproper answer.
But the fox would not look at the bear at all. With his nose still pointingpointing upward,upward, he kept sniffingsniffing the air.
"It seems to me that the wind iswind's blowingblowing from the south," he said. "Is notIsn't it from the south, Old Bear?"
"Umph! Umph!" gruntedgrunted the bear again, growinggrowing crossercrosser every moment.
"Oh, not from the south, you say," said the fox. Then from what directiondirection is it blowing?"
