Santa Needs Help – A Christmas Fable

johnny automatic Santa and bag 300pxOne day, Santa was busy at his desk reading the letters from the children. He could hear banging and shouting coming from the factory.factory. He could smell meltedmelted chocolatechocolate from the plate of Mrs Claus’ Christmas cookiescookies that her assistantassistant elf was delivering.delivering. He looked up at the calendarcalendar hanging on the wall.

“Oh my gawd, it’s Christmas Eve and some of the presents aren’t wrapped!”ped!” yelled Santa. “And the reindeer aren’t ready.”

He pressed a button to call the Captain Elf in. When the elf opened the door, a gust of wind blew in. The teeteringteetering piles of letters flutteredfluttered all around the room.

“Oh no, tomorrow’s Christmas, pick them up because you opened the door!” Santa muttered.muttered. Mrs Claus heard Santa yellingyelling and came and opened the door. “What’s all this racket?”racket?” she asked. She looked at the room and the elf on his knees picking all the letters off the floor. “Oh my gosh, what is this all about? Santa, I think it is time for you to get some help.”

“What do you mean? I’ve got a thousandthousand elves, I don’t need any help,” Santa said.

“I mean, you need more Santas.” Mrs Claus walked out of the room, shutting the door behind her. Santa sat at his desk, thinking, “Should I do this or not? And where would I find more Santas?”

Half an hour later, Mrs Claus came back with a big piece of paper. Santa mumbled, “What’s this?”

“Why don’t you go to the mall and put up this poster?”poster?”  

Santa had a close look at it. In big bold letters it said:

HELP SANTA – BECOME HIS DEPUTY AND GO TO MALLS AROUND THE WORLD, LISTENING TO WHAT CHILDREN WANT FOR CHRISTMAS AND CHECKING IF THEY’VE BEEN GOOD OR NOT.

Santa nodded and said, “That’s a great idea. Let’s do it.”

And that is why every Christmas you can find Deputy Santas in malls all around the world.
